One lucky caddie stands to earn $1.8 million in prize money from the Tour Championship

In Golf Courses by Rob Spellman

It is customary for tournament-winning golfers to give their caddie a percentage of cash prize they receive. Even the golfers who don’t win are still expected to kick back a percentage of their tournament earnings. Those bags are heavy after all and the advice they share can be invaluable.

AceOdds has revealed just how much the winning caddie could take home. While there are no actual rules in place, gentlemanly custom would dictate the 10/7/5 rule – 10% for 1st, 7% for top 10 and 5% for the rest.

How much would each caddie make?

Your average caddie will make between $1,500 to $3,000 per week while on tour, but when it comes to the sharing of prize money, we’re in a whole different ballpark.

The Tour Championship prize fund, in particular, isn’t anything to be sniffed at.

First-place wouldn’t just automatically make the golfer who wins it an automatic millionaire, their caddie would also stand to make a pretty penny for lugging those clubs around.

Ted Scott is most likely to win $1,800,000

Ted Scott looks the most likely to take home a piece of that sweet prize money, having joined up with Scottie Scheffler in 2021 – who is 42% likely to claim first-place. Before that, Scott was the trusted caddie to Bubba Watson for 15 years, helping him win the Masters in both 2012 and 2014, so it’s fair to say he’s used to winning.

Rory McIlroy also has respectable odds for this tournament, with a 22% likelihood of winning, and his caddie Harry Diamond will be doing all he can to spur him on. Diamond was a replacement for long-term caddie JP Fitzgerald, with whom McIlroy won four majors.
