In the summer of 2019 we found ourselves in Austin, Texas for our annual Ultimate Golf Destination feature. A lot goes into selecting the ultimate destination, while golf is an important factor it’s not the only one. Culture, People, Atmosphere, Food, Fun, Nightlife are all things we take into consideration when deciding which location to honor. It’s important to look at the whole picture, let’s face it a Golf Aficionado likes to have fun on and off the golf course.
When we were narrowing down the choices, we knew Austin had some good golf, but it was the value that the city brought off the course that pushed it ahead of other locations. Going into the trip I was expecting above-average golf backed up by great barbeque, good music, and amazing nightlife.
We had fun bar hopping on 6th street and experiencing the converted bungalow bars on Rainey Street, but it was the BBQ and golf that exceeded our expectations. The BBQ is simply out of this world, I’ve never tasted anything close to Austin BBQ. During the trip, we were lucky enough to get a backstage tour of Stiles Switch BBQ, and I highly recommend trying everything on the menu!
The golf itinerary was iconic; Austin Country Club, Horseshoe Bay, University of Texas Golf Club, and Omni Barton Creek. Austin’s in the heart of Texas Hill Country and the land is ideal for developing breathtaking golf courses.
