Country Club of North Carolina – Simple Elegance and A Slice of Heaven

In Golf Courses by Craig Melton

Have you ever imagined the perfect country club? The Country Club that thinks of all the little things, however, does it in the most unassuming manner. I just might have found Heaven on earth.

If anyone thinks Pinehurst Resort has all the great golf courses in Moore County, home of U.S. Open championships, you only know half the story! There is a gem of a country club with all the right things just down the road from Pinehurst’s famous number 2 U.S. Open golf course.

When you drive into the CCNC, you might feel like you are pulling the curtain back on a well-kept secret. Hidden behind a simple guard gate is beautiful perfection.

This club has no huge fence or large gated entranceway, nothing that would bring attention to itself. The friendly staff will be the very first thing you notice. As you make your way into the pro shop, you will realize you lucked into something special. A small but mighty pro shop has everything you need to remember your time at CCNC.

After checking in, you make your way around the corner to the practice area. Again, you could be knocked over with a feather. The range is perfect, from individual club cleaning buckets to directional instructional sticks, tees, and club holders at every station.

Both Dogwood and Cardinal have practice putting greens just before you reach the opening tee box. These practice greens are a great representation of what you’ll experience on the golf course and do an excellent job preparing you for the 18 or, hopefully, 36 greens ahead.

CCNC members get to enjoy a couple of different venues to enjoy before and after their rounds. If you want breakfast, then their grill behind the pro shop is perfect. You place your order, and the staff gets right on it, treating you like a king. There are plenty of great seating options inside and outside. It’s the perfect place for breakfast before or lunch after your round. I can visualize all the members having a beer while watching their favorite college football team on Saturday.

Just a short walk from the pro shop across a road, less than a pitching wedge, away is the entrance to the main country club dining facility capable of entertaining any member function.

NOW THE GOLF!

The tee boxes are perfect! The Fairways are perfect! The Bunkers are Perfect! The Greens are perfect! YES, I said everything you care about is perfect! If you play County Club of North Carolina and do not enjoy yourself, you will never love golf or God’s Canvas, where he shows off natural beauty. If golf is in your blood and you want to see a country club that has thought of everything, look no further. WE FOUND IT!

They have a set of tee boxes for every skill level. If you think they messed that up, you can get another scorecard with mixed tees that provide another four ways to play the course.

When I tell you this club has thought of everything, I mean it.

The actual community is a mix of older homes in excellent condition, with some that have been improved, mixed in with newer-built homes that fit in perfectly. When standing on the tee of each hole, you first see the beautiful fairways and hole layout, NOT the homes. The homes on the course are great and have stunning views of the golf course. However, they are not lining the course. The well-established pine trees outline the holes and not the homes. You only notice the homes once you are in the middle of the fairways, investigate the trees, and see the fantastic houses along the course.

I was in the area staying in a cottage on Pinehurst No. 9. The cottage was beautiful, and we played the famous Pinehurst No. 2 course along with Pinehurst No. 4. I was amazed at the condition of Pinehurst. The Pinehurst golf courses lived up to their legendary status and were challenging to play. Being at Pinehurst Resort was a great experience, and the golf courses were in near-perfect condition.

However, my trip’s highlight was playing the Dogwood and Cardinal golf courses at the Country Club of North Carolina. I experienced a new level of perfection at all stages of the golf experience.

No matter where you go, you think, “There must be something you could improve.” Every member talks about how their club can be better.

Facilities? Staff? Condition of the course? (Tee boxes, fairways, Bunkers, and greens) Yardage?

There must be something wrong!  Right?

Well, NOT here! CCNC has it all covered. If you want to experience simple elegance and a slice of Heaven next time, you are near Pinehurst, NC. A stop by the Country Club of N.C. is a must. If you retired and are looking for the perfect membership in the area, then we have found it!

It’s not often a golfer can experience Heaven while on earth! Until now! I have! Check out the CCNC Rental Program, which provides accommodations within the gates of CCNC and access to both Dogwood and Cardinal. For more information, please visit the CCNC website
