Part I: A Dream Realized – Setting Out on the Irish Links

A Father’s Dream
Ireland is a dream golf trip for so many fathers, and for me, it was one I wasn’t sure would ever happen. From cheering my boys when they first made contact at age 5 and 7, through years of camps, high school matches, and endless junior tournaments, I always hoped one day we’d tee it up together on the Emerald Isle.
The Journey Begins
At ages 19 and 17, Alec and Zevy are still willing to spend time with their old man (even if their phones get more attention than I do). We all carry single-digit handicaps, which made the timing feel perfect. Over one unforgettable week, we played four courses along Ireland’s southeast and western coasts: The European Club, Ballybunion, Lahinch, and Connemara.
Tetris in a Ford Kuga
The adventure started the moment we landed in Dublin. We crammed our bags and clubs into a Ford Kuga like a live game of Tetris and braved narrow Irish roads, brushing hedges and praying our insurance was good enough.
From there, it was off to Wicklow and our first stop: The European Club.
👉 Next up in Part II: battling wind, fescue, and twenty unforgettable holes at The European Club.
