Oak Hills Country Club – 100 Years Strong

Loved the Members Only sign on the putting green.

Oak Hills Country Club is one of Texas’s most prestigious private golf clubs. Established in 1922, the club has a rich history and has hosted some significant events over its 100-year history.

The golf course at Oak Hills is a masterpiece of design and engineering. Oak Hills was designed by the legendary architect A.W. Tillinghast and later renovated by renowned architect Jay Morrish—a challenging yet fair test of golf for players of all skill levels. The lush fairways and meticulously manicured greens provide a beautiful backdrop to the rolling terrain of the Texas Hill Country. The club has tried to stay true to the original green structures designed by A.W. Tillinghast.

A photo from my round on January 13th, the green complexes at Oak Hills are phenomenal.

Oak Hills is no stranger to the limelight hosting the PGA Tour’s Texas Open from 1961 to 1994. Greats such as Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, and Ben Crenshaw won the event at the club- the course layout was an absolute favorite amongst PGA Tour players. Oak Hills was also the site of the 1968 PGA Championship, won by Julius Boros.

In addition to its championship golf course, Oak Hills offers its members an array of amenities. The clubhouse features a fitness center, dining options, and a pro shop. The club also offers tennis courts, a swimming pool, and social events yearly.

The club’s commitment to excellence is evident in its staff and service. The team at Oak Hills is dedicated to providing members with a memorable experience every time they visit. Whether it’s a round of golf, a meal in the clubhouse, or a social event, the staff at Oak Hills goes above and beyond to ensure members feel welcome and appreciated.

My Golf was only so-so, but the company was terrific!

I was lucky enough to play Oak Hills during my visit to San Antonio, and the membership and staff welcomed me with open arms. Talk about being a member for a day. I felt right at home and could easily picture myself being a member. If you’re visiting San Antonio, I highly recommend you try connecting with someone who can get you out to experience Oak Hills.

Oak Hills Country Club is more than just a golf club. It’s a community of like-minded individuals passionate about golf and a commitment to excellence. With its rich history, world-class golf course, and top-notch amenities, Oak Hills is truly one of the premier private clubs in San Antonio.
