The MyJoy Experience

In Product Reviews by Rob Spellman

So anyone that has read my previous shoe reviews should have learned one thing, I’m a huge fan of the BOA fit versus traditional shoe laces.  Going back to the review of the FootJoy Freestyle featuring the BOA enclosure, just confirms why I am hooked on BOA.  However, the struggle with BOA golf shoes regardless of the shoe company, is the limited amount of styles and minuscule color options.  What does that mean?  It means, not all golf shoes are available with the BOA system and the styles that are available typically only come in one color choice, or two if you’re lucky.

Trust me, outside of 3-putting, nothing frustrates me more than to find the perfect golf shoes only to find out they aren’t available with BOA fit, or the BOA version only comes in a boring white or black colorway.  The perfect example of this was 2 years ago when I reviewed the original FootJoy PRO/SL, the shoe was wildly successful and quickly became a favorite of tour players around the world.  However, if you wanted the BOA technology, you were limited to a basic white or black PRO/SL shoe design.

Spin forward 2 years to 2019 and FootJoy has an updated version of the PRO/SL available.  Again, the shoe looks great, but again for anyone looking for the BOA fit system, the new PRO/SL options are… Yup you guessed it; black or white!

Just as I was about to throw a fit that would make Sergio Garcia envious, I noticed a funny looking icon that said My Customize, this sent me over to the MyJoys custom ordering page.  Like a mad scientist, I quickly went to work developing my very own PRO/SL design.

The first step, just like any shoe shopping experience started with selecting my shoe size and width.  For me, I’ve noticed with FootJoy an 11.5 with medium width fits me the best, other brands I typically wear a size 12 but with FootJoy a 12 just seems a tad bit big.

From there you go to the color selection; this is where you get to have some fun.  The PRO/SL is broken up into 4 color selctions; base, saddle, accent, and lace.  Based on my previous experience with the original PRO/SL, I knew I didn’t want a white base, it’s impossible to keep clean.  Therefore, I selected the black base hoping it will be easier to keep the toe of the shoe looking new and clean.  At first, the options might seem limited, for the shoe base you only have 4 choices; white, black, grey, and navy.

Onto the saddle, which in my opinion is the heart of the shoe design.  At this point you are introduced to a ton of options.  Among the more than 70 leather options, I instantly fell in love with the Heritage Plaid.  One of 14 limited edition leather options currently avilable, the Heritage Plaid is a perfect compliment to the black base.

The White Silver Sphinx was the final piece to the MyJoy design!

Next, you have to choose the accent color, which resides at the heel of the shoe.  Out of the 45 avilable options, I decided to go with White Silver Sphinx.  A twist to a classic white heel, this design features an embossed pattern that adds a little extra pop of detail.

Finally you’re left with the choice of lace color.  Limited to just black or white I had the option to hide the lace eyelets into the black base or provide a compliment to the white heel and sole.  I opted for white to complete what I feel is best looking pair of PRO/SL golf shoes in the WORLD!

The Best Looking Pro SL Golf Shoe In The World!

As a huge fan of the BOA fit system, I’m so glad to see that FootJoy has provided an option that allows golfers around the world the ability to design their own golf shoe and still have the BOA system as an option.  For too long, golfers that opt for the BOA fit have been limited to just black or white, now we can have our cake and eat it too!

Things to Note

Selecting the MyJoy customize option bumped the price up from $189.99 to $229.99.   Customization comes with a cost of $40, for me having the ability to design a one of a kind shoe is well worth the 40 bucks!  Second, it takes time to receive your shoes, I mean they are custom and are being built to order so don’t expect 2-day shipping.  The average delivery time varies between 2 and 4 weeks.  So the next time you need a new pair of golf shoes, plan ahead and splurge a little bit and you’ll end up with something one of a kind that reflects your style and personality.
